The loop is familiar – explore, capture, train, evolve, repeat – but the execution is tight enough to keep more than 10 million players returning. The free version is fully playable, but progression is gated behind two soft currencies: coins (earned slowly from battles and quests) and gems (the premium currency, mostly bought via in-app purchase). You need both to buy Discatches for tougher captures, refill healing potions, and unlock cosmetic and stat upgrades. The grind is not punishing, but it does ask you to either commit time or spend.
