Samsung did a shake-up of its smartphone portfolio last year intending to counter the growing clout of Chinese manufactures as it killed the Galaxy J series along with the online-exclusive Galaxy On series. In their place, Samsung extended the mid-range Galaxy A series to the low mid-range segment and introduced an all-new online-exclusive M series catering to the needs of the lower mid-tier customer base.

So far, the South Korean behemoth has four M-series smartphones such as the Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20, Galaxy M30, and Galaxy M40 in the wild and now it seems we have heard for the first time about their successors that are to follow next year.

A tipster called Sudhanshu Ambhore has revealed the names of the next generation of M-series smartphones and their key spec details that include info about the camera, processor and RAM capacity.

According to him, the successors to the Galaxy M20, M30, and M40 are to be called the Galaxy M21, M31, and M41 respectively. As of now, it is not clear whether or not Samsung would bring forth a refresh to the Galaxy M10 next year.

Before talking about the Galaxy M21, let’s have a short recap about the Galaxy M20. The latter was launched in January this year with Exynos 7904 SoC paired with 3GB RAM along with packing 13MP+5MP dual cameras at the back.

The Galaxy M21, on the other hand, is likely in the works with an Exynos 9606 SoC which will be mated to 4GB RAM. The rear of the phone will still have the dual-camera setup with an enhanced primary sensor. The rear cameras will comprise a 24MP primary sensor and a 5MP depth sensor.

The Galaxy M31 is likely to integrate a Snapdragon 665 SoC which is expected also on the upcoming Xiaomi Mi A3 and the Realme 5. The smartphone packs 6GB RAM while it mounts a triple-rear-camera setup including a 48MP primary sensor, a 12MP wide-angle sensor, and a 5MP depth sensor. The name of the 48MP sensor is not specified, but seemingly it will be Samsung’s own ISOCELL Bright GM2 Sensor.

For a perspective, the Galaxy M30 was launched earlier this year wielding Exynos 9604 SoC, 4GB RAM and triple-rear-camera setup that came with 13MP+5MP+5MP configuration.

Moving on to the Galaxy M41, it is going to be the top-end in the lineup just like the incumbent Galaxy M40. The M41 is expected to rock Exynos 9630 SoC as against the Snapdragon 675 SoC present in the Galaxy M40. The 6GB RAM remains unchanged, however.

The rear cameras include a 64MP primary sensor which could be the new ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor, a 12MP wide-angle sensor, and a 5MP depth sensor. The Galaxy M40 also mounts triple cameras at the back but the primary sensor is of 32MP resolution only.

Rest of the details of the Galaxy M21, M31, and M41 remain shrouded in mystery. As there is a very long period preceding the launch, we are certain to come across many new leaks and information regarding the troika of devices.

For now, however, everything about these phones in the absence of an official confirmation needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
