Last year’s Honor 8X was a capable mid-range smartphone in every respect, winning the favor of customers whichever markets it launched in. Now its successors, the Honor 9x and Honor 9X Pro, have arrived to catch the fancy of buyers again.
Honor, which is HUAWEI’s sub-brand, has launched the Honor 9X and 9X Pro in China following loads of leaks. Both the phones are first in Honor portfolio to come with newly announced Kirin 810 SoC and a pop-up selfie camera.
Both the smartphones with a shiny back that sports X-shaped gradient effect, vertical camera arrangement, pop up selfie camera, slim bezels, and side-mounted fingerprint scanner look quite a clone of one another. However, if looked intently there is a difference in the rear-camera setup of the devices, which we will discuss later on.
In fact, the phone duos are identical to each other in terms of specs and features as well with only differences reflecting in the rear camera module and memory storage configurations.
The Honor 9X and 9X Pro are both powered by 7nm HiSilicon Kirin 810 SoC that recently launched and powers the Huawei nova 5 Pro.
For the difference, the Honor 9X packs 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB internal storage while the Honor 9X Pro comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB internal storage. The storage in both the phones is expandable up to 512 using a microSD card.
The Honor 9X and 9X Pro offer a 6.59-inch full HD+ LCD display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and no notch or punch holes. As a result, the display ensures full-screen viewing experience.
On the software side of things, both the phones run EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9 Pie. Again a same size 4,000mAh battery with fast charging support (unspecified) keeps the devices juiced up.
As said earlier, the difference is noticeable in the rear-camera unit, though both the devices wield the same 16MP pop-up selfie camera.
The Honor 9X mounts a dual-rear-camera setup including a 48MP primary sensor and 2MP depth sensor. Both these sensors are also present in the Honor 9X Pro but with the addition of an 8MP wide-angle sensor, thus making it a triple-rear-camera setup.
Another difference that is worth mentioning is the presence of a cooling system in the Pro version. The Honor 9X for being the more affordable version misses out on it.
The Honor 9X is up for preorder in China and will be available starting July 30. It comes in Black, Blue, and Red color options. The smartphone is priced CNY1,399 (Approx. USD203) for the 4GB RAM+64GB storage model while the 6GB RAM+64GB storage model and 6GB RAM+128GB storage model cost CNY1,599 (Approx. USD232) and CNY1,899 (Approx. USD276), respectively.
On the other hand, the Honor 9X Pro which comes with Black and Purple color options will go on preorder on July 30 ahead of the sale beginning on August 9. The 8GB RAM+128GB storage variant is priced at CNY2,199 (Approx. USD320) while the 8GB RAM+256GB storage variant is priced at CNY2,399 (CNY320).
It is not official when the Honor 9X series will be carried forward to other markets. But we expect that will happen soon.
