OnePlus switched to 90Hz display with the OnePlus 7 Pro. And in September during the launch of the OnePlus 7T it confirmed that all the upcoming OnePlus phones would have a display with a 90Hz refresh rate. However, it seems the OnePlus 8 Pro, in particular, will instead pack a 120Hz display when it launches next year along with the regular OnePlus 8.
Famous tipster Max J. who chiefly tweets about Samsung from the handle @SamsungNews, has shared an image that has 120Hz written over it alongside the content of the tweet, reading “Be Pro.” Initially, it was assumed that he was referring to the Galaxy S11. But later, he clarified by a comment that his tweet was meant for the OnePlus 8 Pro.
If it turns out to be true, then OnePlus would be following on what it did with the OnePlus 7 lineup. The OnePlus 7 was launched with 60Hz display while the OnePlus 7 Pro hoped on to 90Hz display. In the same vein, the vanilla OnePlus 8 is expected to feature a 90Hz display, whereas the OnePlus 8 Pro will likely include a whopping 120Hz display.

For the uninitiated, the 120Hz refresh rate tech refreshes the screen at a higher rate per second. As a result users get butterry smooth touchscreen experience. Also, the images look more vivid, and games appear stutter-free.
So far, there are three phones out in the wild with 120Hz refresh rates such as the Razer Phone 2, the ASUS ROG Phone 2, and the SHARP Aquos R3. Xiaomi is rumored to be prepping a smartphone with 120Hz display as well. So with OnePlus 8 Pro joining the fray 120Hz display smartphone will fast become a trend in 2020.
The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro launch is still months away, and nothing about the specs have been revealed yet. But the duo will undoubtedly come integrated with the Snapdragon 865 SoC. Support for 5G is also expected.
As the Pro version of the OnePlus 7 came with QHD+ resolution on AMOLED display the same is also likely for the OnePlus 8 Pro. The latter is rumored to rock a 6.65-inch size screen.
On the design front, some clarity has emerged thanks to a recent render leak courtesy of 91Mbiles. The leak has given away that the OnePlus 8 Pro will come with a quad-rear camera setup including a 3D ToF sensor.
Renders also suggested that unlike the pop-up selfie camera mechanism on the One Plus 7 Pro/7T Pro, the OnePlus 8 Pro will have a small hole-punch cutout on the top-left corner of the display to house a selfie shooter and a few sensors as necessary.
The OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro launched in May this year. So, expectedly, the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will likely break cover around the same time in 2020.
