A new ‘Reno’ series by OPPO came into being with the launch of the OPPO Reno smartphone in April this year. Soon the company added the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom and the OPPO Reno 5G into the portfolio. And now just four months after the birth of Reno series, OPPO is set to launch another smartphone under this series, the OPPO Reno 2.
OPPO has confirmed that the OPPO Reno 2 will first make its debut in India on August 28 before it goes to other parts of the world. The new smartphone will come with a similar design associated with Reno series. The company from the start made it clear that the OPPO Reno 2 will arrive with 20x digital zoom, quad cameras on the rear, and the shark fin-style pop-up selfie camera.
Today OPPO has poured in some more details about the upcoming Reno 2. The company has confirmed that the Reno 2 will have a 4,000mAh battery with VOOC 3.0 fast charging support and will rock the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G SoC paired with 8GB RAM.
The Snapdragon 730G is a 2.2GHz octa-core SoC based on 8nm process. It is the same chipset that drives the Samsung Galaxy A80. The Snapdragon 730G comes with Adreno 618 GPU and ensures 15% graphics boost relative to the regular Snapdragon 730 SoC.
The OPPO Reno 2 will feature a 6.55-inch hole-punch- or notch-less AMOLED display with 93.1 percent screen-to-body-ratio and an embedded optical in-display fingerprint scanner. The front gets the Gorilla Glass 6 protection while the back is safeguarded with Gorilla Glass 5. For smooth gaming, the Reno 2 will be equipped with HDR10 support and features like Game Boost 3.0, Link Boost, and Game Assistant.
OPPO has also spilled the information about the color schemes of the phone which will be Ocean Blue and Luminous Black.
The phone is expected to run Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box and pack 128GB or 256GB internal storage, which can be expanded via microSD card. Though the company has said the Reno 2 will include quad cameras at the back it hasn’t divulged the details of the sensors to be used.
However, it is seemingly certain that the camera module will include an in-vogue 48MP Sony IMX586 primary sensor in addition to the other three sensors of the resolution 12MP, 8MP, and 2MP. The shark-fin will most likely accommodate a 16MP selfie camera. Better Ultra Dark Mode and Bokeh Mode are expected on Reno 2 thanks to a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU).
OPPO in its teaser mentioned that the OPPO Reno 2 ‘series’ would launch on August 28, which means that there exists other Reno phones as well to accompany the Reno 2. Rumor has it the Reno 2Z and 2F are two other phones to see the daylight alongside the Reno 2, but so far their details are kept under wraps. Hopefully, we will get to know about them in the coming days. Stay tuned.
