You want a region-locked Pokemon. A search for a sniping tool promises to hand it to you in seconds. Skip it. That route is dead, it gets accounts banned, and a slower path actually works.

Quick answer

PokeSniper is dead. So is every other Pokemon GO sniping tool. Sniping needed a third-party scanner to find a rare spawn and a GPS spoofer to teleport your account to it, and Niantic now detects both. The legitimate replacements still cover the goal. Regionals rotate worldwide through global events, Remote Raid Passes let you join raids in other cities, and trading closes the last Pokedex gaps. None of it touches your account.

The one path most players should take
-------------------------------------

![Black and white line illustration representing the one legitimate path Pokemon GO players should take.](https://bestforandroid.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/pokesnipers-bnw-h2-0-the-short-version-stop-looking-for-a-sniper.jpg)

If you only do one thing, make friends in other regions and trade. That sounds almost too plain to be the answer, but it is the durable one. A spoofed catch can vanish with a ban. A traded Heracross is yours for good.

Trading takes a little effort up front. You add players from r/PokemonGoFriends or a city Discord, raise the friendship level over a few weeks, then swap regionals. After that the Pokedex gaps close on their own pace, with zero risk to the account you have spent years building.

The rest of this guide covers when the other two systems beat trading, and exactly how to set all of it up. For the wider story of how the third-party scanner ecosystem fell apart, see [the editor’s guide to FastPokeMap alternatives](https://bestforandroid.com/fastpokemap/).

Why sniping is dead
-------------------

Picture sniping in its prime. A map site somewhere is tracking live spawns across the planet. You spot a rare one, tap your spoofer, and your account blinks across an ocean to grab it. For a while, that genuinely worked. It does not anymore, and the reason is worth understanding before you waste money on a tool that promises otherwise.

The scanners went first. When Niantic closed the third-party API those map sites relied on, the live spawn feed simply went dark. Spoofing then got harder in waves: device-integrity checks, then cross-referencing your reported location against nearby cell towers and Wi-Fi, then behavioral detection that catches an impossible jump across the map within seconds.

So here is where it stands. A modern sniping attempt trips a detection signal almost the moment you try, and Niantic’s [Terms of Service](https://nianticlabs.com/terms) flatly prohibit GPS spoofing and third-party tools. Enforcement climbs an escalating strike ladder, and the strikes land long before you have caught anything worth keeping.

The legitimate path to regional and rare Pokemon
------------------------------------------------

![Black and white line illustration representing the legitimate path to regional and rare pokemon.](https://bestforandroid.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/pokesnipers-bnw-h2-2-the-legitimate-path-to-regional-and-rare-pokem.jpg)

Three official systems cover almost everything sniping used to chase. **Together they reach every regional, most rare raids, and the long tail of Pokedex gaps.**

Niantic rotates regional Pokemon through global events. A regional that is normally locked to one continent becomes catchable everywhere during the right event, and over roughly a year the major regionals each cycle through at least once. The official [Pokemon GO events page](https://pokemongo.com/en/events) lists what is coming and which species each event includes.

Remote Raid Passes cover the rare-raid case. If a high-tier raid is happening in a city you do not live in, a player there can send you a Remote Raid invite and you join from home. The r/PokemonGoFriends subreddit and city Discord servers exist mostly to coordinate these invites.

Trading covers the rest. Find a friend in a different region, trade your local regional for theirs, and the gap closes without anyone spoofing a location. It is slower than a snipe, but it is permanent and it carries no ban risk.

Community events worth tracking
-------------------------------

Four recurring events do most of the heavy lifting for rare catches. Each one rewards a different kind of player, so pick the ones that fit how you play.

- **Community Day (monthly):** a featured Pokemon spawns heavily for a few hours with a boosted Shiny rate and an exclusive move. Local and remote players both benefit.
- **Spotlight Hour (weekly):** a featured Pokemon with a bonus, usually extra Stardust or candy. Less rare, but a reliable weekly habit.
- **Global events (several per year):** the big regional and legendary rotations happen here. The official [Pokemon GO news page](https://pokemongo.com/en/news) announces them ahead of time.
- **Go Fest (annual, ticketed):** the largest event of the year, with the broadest rare lineup. The ticketed remote version is the honest answer to “I want to catch a lot of rares in one weekend.”

Worth knowing

The official calendar, Remote Raid Passes, and trading cover every goal that used to drive sniping. The trade-off is patience and a small amount of PokeCoins for raid passes, rather than the near-certain ban that comes with spoofing.

-----------------------

Before you start

Do step one first. A leftover spoofing or sniping app can flag your account even when you never open it, so clearing your device matters before anything else.

With that cleared, the rest is routine. Five steps take you from a clean device to a steady supply of rare and regional catches.

1

Remove every spoofing or sniping app

Uninstall any old PokeSniper, NecroBot, fake-GPS, or mock-location tool. Even a dormant one can leave a detection signal Niantic can read.

2

Track the official event calendar

Bookmark the Pokemon GO news and events pages. Note which regionals and legendaries appear in each upcoming event, and save the ones that include a Pokemon you want.

3

Build a remote raid group

Join r/PokemonGoFriends or your city’s Pokemon GO Discord. Post your trainer code with a short note about which raids you can host or want to join.

4

Plan around Community Day and Go Fest

Community Day runs monthly, Go Fest once a year. Plan your time, in person or remote, around the regionals and legendaries you most want to catch.

5

Use trading for the long tail

Add Best Friends in different regions and trade your regionals for theirs. Trading is the durable, ban-free way to finish off the Pokedex.

The verdict
-----------

The verdict

**Bottom line:** PokeSniper and the sniping technique are dead, and any tool that claims otherwise is a scam or a ban waiting to happen. Do not chase it.

If you want regionals and rares the safe way, the official event calendar, Remote Raid Passes, and trading cover the entire use case. For Pokedex completion specifically, trading with Best Friends across regions is the most reliable path. It asks for patience instead of risk, and it never threatens the account you spent years building.

#### Questions trainers actually ask

- **Is there still any way to snipe in Pokemon GO?**
No. Sniping needs scanner data and GPS spoofing, and Niantic detects and bans both. Any tool claiming to enable it is a scam.
- **What happens if I try to snipe anyway?**
Best case, nothing works and you waste your time. Worst case, you collect strikes on an escalating ban ladder that can end in a permanent termination. Enforcement can also flag a fresh account by device fingerprint.
- **How long until a regional comes around through events?**
Most regionals cycle through a global event within roughly a year. [Watch](https://bestforandroid.com/movie-streaming-apps/ "best free movie apps") the official news page so you know when yours is next.
- **I just need one Pokemon for my Pokedex. What is fastest?**
Trading. Build a few friendships with players in other regions and trade for the species you are missing. It is the durable replacement for what sniping used to do.
- **Are Remote Raid Passes worth the cost?**
For legendaries and region-locked raid Pokemon, yes. A pass costs a small amount of PokeCoins, far less than travelling, and it carries no account risk.
- **Is there a safer way to catch rare Pokemon overall?**
Yes. The official event calendar, Remote Raid Passes, trading, and Daily Adventure Incense together cover nearly every rare Pokemon you would want, with zero Terms of Service risk.

How we put this guide together

We reviewed Niantic’s published Terms of Service and fair-play policy, the official Pokemon GO events and news pages, and the documented history of the third-party scanner ecosystem on the [Wikipedia Pokemon Go article](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Go). Ban-pattern context draws on enforcement discussion from the r/TheSilphRoad community. We do not test cheating tools, and nothing here requires one.
