I tried logging into [Facebook](https://bestforandroid.com/facebook-apps/) this morning and got the same wall everyone else hit. My screen said my account was temporarily unavailable, like the app just forgot who I was.

Facebook and [Instagram](https://bestforandroid.com/instagram-music-not-available-fix/) users worldwide are reporting outages this Sunday morning, and the disruption has spread further than just those two apps. Messenger and Meta Ads are also down, according to user reports. Downdetector shows [Facebook reports](https://x.com/downdetector/status/2078750648745521259) starting at 3:55 a.m. EDT, with Instagram reports beginning shortly after at 4:05 a.m. EDT.

Users trying to log into Facebook on desktop are hitting an “Account Temporarily Unavailable” error, and DownDetector has recorded a sharp spike in Instagram reports on top of it.

What the error message actually says

The exact text reads: “Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes.”

Thousands of people have been trying again since before 4 a.m. with no change.

Why Messenger and Meta Ads going down matters too

This isn’t just a social feed problem. Messenger carries everyday conversations for people who don’t even touch Facebook or Instagram directly, and Meta Ads is [how businesses run](https://bestforandroid.com/tips/accounting-apps-for-financial-freedom/) and monitor active ad campaigns. When Meta Ads goes down alongside the core apps, marketers lose visibility into live spend and performance, not just a login screen.

Desktop users are getting hit hardest

[Reports so far suggest](https://downdetector.com/status/facebook/) the website versions of Facebook and Instagram are struggling more than the mobile apps. Several users describe the app loading fine on their phone, while the browser version throws the same error over and over. It lines up with an issue on Meta’s web infrastructure rather than something wrong with individual accounts.

Both Facebook and Instagram are owned by Meta, and right now the company hasn’t confirmed a cause for any of it. No timeline has been given either, beyond the error message’s own promise that things should be resolved shortly.

For now, the advice from Meta’s own error message is the only advice there is. Try again in a few minutes. Thousands of users and advertisers have been doing exactly that since before sunrise, with no ETTR from Meta yet.
