Owners say the original Nest Doorbell has stopped showing the live view in the Google Home app. Alerts and history still work, but Google hasn’t confirmed the issue or released an official fix.

- Owners of the first-gen Nest Doorbell (Nest Hello) report a broken live view feed in the Google Home app.
- Event history and Nest Hub alerts still continue to work, which means the issue has nothing to do with home Wi-Fi.
- Second- and third-generation doorbells appear to be unaffected.
- Google hasn’t confirmed an issue or a fix, and it has been happening since the official update released by Google earlier this month.

Few features on a video-based doorbell matter more, and one of those is the live view, and owners of the original Nest Doorbell say theirs aren’t working anymore. [9to5Google reports](https://9to5google.com/2026/11/06/google-nest-doorbell-live-view-broken-reports/) that live feeds in the Google Home app have broken for many people with the first-gen model, widely known as the Nest Hello. Google has not confirmed a problem or offered a fix, so the first question that comes in our mind, i.e., is it your Wi-Fi?

Probably not. The reports I have come across on the internet and forums share a pattern that points away from the home network.

One owner [says](https://www.reddit.com/r/googlehome/comments/1xki9wz/nest_hello_live_view_not_working/) the Nest Hello is the only camera that has been affected, while their other wired and battery Nest cameras work flawlessly. They also rewired it, did the 10-second restart, and rebooted the router, with no change. Others [report](https://www.reddit.com/r/googlehome/comments/1x97l2t/no_live_video_from_doorbell_but_theres_live_video/) that history is still viewable, but the live video no longer works on the Nest Hub.

What’s actually affected
------------------------

The issue is unclear. However, there are [Google support threads](https://support.google.com/googlehome/thread/474819640?hl=en), mostly from recent days, and it has been marked as a trending issue on the Google Support forum. Android Authority [says](https://www.androidauthority.com/nest-doorbell-live-view-broken-3732672/) the second- and third-generation doorbells appear unaffected.

The timeline is also unclear, so we can’t really figure out if this started happening after the recent update released by Google or if it’s something else. One Reddit user [says](https://www.reddit.com/r/googlehome/comments/1xozkct/live_view_broken_for_over_a_week_now_for_older/) live view has been broken for over a week. Another says they have lost access to it [for over a month](https://www.reddit.com/r/googlehome/comments/1x97l2t/no_live_video_from_doorbell_but_theres_live_video/) already.

The suspects
------------

Google [rolled out an update](https://9to5google.com/2026/10/30/google-nest-cam-doorbell-updates-2026/) to older Nest hardware at the end of October, and the timing and the recent surge of complaints suggest that it could be because of the update. Some users have [blamed](https://www.reddit.com/r/googlehome/comments/1x97l2t/comment/19rwmr7mbl16p/) Google’s switch from RTSP protocol to WebRTC protocol; still, the workarounds suggested by the owners in the forums don’t seem to fix the issue.

What Google has said
--------------------

So far, nothing specific. Google has offered only generic troubleshooting messages. The official Google Nest Community account on Reddit asked one affected user whether they’d tried [Google’s camera troubleshooting article](https://support.google.com/googlehome/answer/9259924) and suggested contacting [support](https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp?hl=en) by phone or chat.

That’s reasonable advice for a problem that is being experienced by a single user. However, the same advice becomes less useful when the number of reports makes it very obvious the fault is at Google’s end.

If you own a Nest Hello, check whether only your live feed is dead and whether recorded history still loads. If both match the reports above, a consistent router reboot or reset and reconnection probably won’t help. Simply report it to Google, and keep an eye on the fix. Until Google says something, the doorbell will still ring, but you’ll have to guess who’s there.
