After the cancelation of MWC 2020 owing to the spread of Coronavirus, Sony has launched its new pair of smartphones online. The two new smartphones are the flagship and 5G-enabled Sony Xperia 1 II (read as Xperia 1 mark 2) and the mid-tier Xperia 10 II which are successors to the Xperia 1 and the Xperia 10 series, respectively.
Along with the two smartphones, the company has also confirmed the Xperia Pro which will likely feature similar internal hardware found in the Xperia 1 II but design-wise it will be more rugged and durable than the Xperia 1 II.
The smartphone will be armed with an HDMI port to be connected with Sony Alpha camera gear. Thus, the smartphone will act as a viewfinder and thanks to 5G connectivity it will act as a broadcasting device as well.
However, here we will focus on the spec sheet of the Xperia 1 II and Xperia 10 II only since not many specifics are known about the under-development Xperia Pro as yet.
Sony Xperia 1 II
Getting on with the Sony Xperia 1 II, the smartphone is covered with a 6.5-inch 4K OLED screen with a 21:9 aspect ratio, Gorilla Glass 6 protection, and Motion Blur reduction technology which is equivalent to 90Hz display as per the company.
Under the hood, the Xperia 1 II is driven by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC which is mated to Adreno 650 GPU, 8GB RAM, and 256GB built-in storage. The smartphone is equipped with a hybrid sim slot which can be utilized for storage expansion.
On the software end, the Xperia 1 II runs Android 10 out-of-the-box while for the fuel the device makes use of a 4,000mAh battery with 18W wired fast charging as well as Qi wireless charging support.

For the optics, the smartphone mounts a ZEISS-branded triple-camera setup on the rear. The camera array includes a 12MP Sony IMX555 primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and another 12MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.
The Xperia 1 II is the world’s first smartphone to shoot videos at 20fps. Upfront, the smartphone tacks on an 8MP selfie shooter.
Other salient aspects of the phone include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, front-firing stereo speakers, USB Type-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.1.
Sony Xperia 10 II
Talking about the Sony Xperia 10 II, it packs a 6.0-inch full HD+ (2500x1080p) OLED screen with a 21:9 aspect ratio. On the inside, a Snapdragon 665 SoC pumps power teaming up with Adreno 610 GPU, 4GB RAM, and 128GB default storage which can be expanded further by using a microSD card in the hybrid sim slot.
The Xperia 10 II boots Android 10 out-of-the-box while a 3,600mAh battery equipped with 18W fast charging technology supplies fuel.
The smartphone features three cameras on the back in 12MP+8MP+8MP array while the front is graced by an 8MP shooter for selfies and video chatting purposes.
The Xperia 10 II also has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and a USB Type-C port along with 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 5, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Pricing and availability
The Xperia 1 II will hit the shelves in Purple and White hues in the second quarter this year retailing at EUR1,200. On the other hand, the Xperia 10 II which will be available in Black and White paint jobs is priced at EUR370. The Xperia 10 II will also land sometime in the second quarter.
