We already told you that a 64MP smartphone camera is going to form a new trend in the latter part of 2019. And today in China Xiaomi unveiled key details about the 64MP camera tech that it will use in one of its upcoming Redmi smartphones- a day ahead of Realme’s presentation on its 64MP camera tech that is to take place in India tomorrow.

As expected, Xiaomi will make use of the 64MP Samsung ISOCELL GW1 sensor which packs 38% more pixels than a 48MP camera and allows users to capture brighter, vibrant and more detailed image, as claimed by Xiaomi.

The ISOCELL GW1 sensor comes with 1/1.72” size and 1.6-micron pixel that will click amazing clear shots even in low light. The GW1 sensor is capable of churning out 16MP pixel-binned images as against the 12MP pixel-binned shots by a 48MP sensor.

The GW1 sensor offers real-time HDR support up to 100 decibels for detailed colors compared to a maximum of 60 decibels in conventional sensors. The 64MP Redmi phone will come with features like ISOCELL Plus for improved color reproduction, Smart ISO, and Hybrid 3D HDR.

The images will be of 8248x6936p resolution and about a whopping 19MB in size. As a result, users can now print 2.44mx3.26m posters at 72dpi.

The 64GB Redmi smartphone will make its debut in Q4 2019 in the Indian market. And if rumors are to be believed it will be upcoming Redmi Note 8 Pro with a quad-rear-camera setup.

Notably, Realme is also showcasing key highlights of the camera of its 64MP smartphone tomorrow ahead of the actual device’s launch on August 15. It is widely speculated that the Realme smartphone with a 64MP sensor will allegedly be named “Realme 5”. The Realme has already confirmed that the smartphone in question will mount quad cameras on the rear.

Samsung, the largest smartphone manufacturer, has also thrown its hat into the competition as it is reported to have restarted the work on a 64MP camera smartphone, which is going to launch under the Galaxy A series.

Expectedly, in quick time, we will witness a slew of other brands also joining the fray with their 64MP camera phones. But Xiaomi is trying to remain a step ahead as it also teased an upcoming Mi series smartphone today that will incredibly have a Samsung’s 108MP sensor capable of producing 12,032×9,024 pixels resolution photos. Rumor has it that the 108MP phone from Xiaomi is nothing but the upcoming Xiaomi Mi MIX 4.

Surely, there are exciting times ahead of us when the smartphones with unbelievably high-resolution cameras and much-improved software become a commonplace. And, for the better, this is not going to happen in a distant future but only in the matter of a few months.
