Same powerful hardware, new dual-tone looks, and a price that now tops Apple’s iPhone Duo in China. Samsung’s most striking foldable of 2026 will not ship to the rest of the world.
- The W27 is a China-only, premium version of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
- It starts at CNY 18,999 (about $2,850) and tops out at CNY 21,999 (about $3,300).
- In China, it costs more than the iPhone Duo.
Samsung has launched the Galaxy W27 in China, a luxury edition of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra in dark blue or dark red with gold trim. The foldable went official on October 29, 2026, and starts at CNY 18,999 (about $2,850). Samsung has no plans to sell it outside China, so interested buyers elsewhere can only admire the colors from afar.
What makes the W27 different

Under the glass, this is the same phone as the Z Fold 8 Ultra. It has an 8-inch main screen, a 6.5-inch cover display, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip, a 200MP main camera, and a 5,000mAh battery.
The changes are mostly cosmetic, with a few useful extras. Gold covers the frame, hinge, and camera ring, and the back carries a “Heart to the World” logo. The W27 ships only with 16GB of RAM and adds Tiantong satellite support for emergency messages. Surprisingly, the China-only variant comes with a Kevlar case and a 45W charger in the box.
A premium price for a premium look
The price is the real headline and shocker of this newly launched Samsung phone. The 1TB W27 costs about $3,300, while the 1TB Fold 8 Ultra sells in the US for $2,699. In China, the W27 also sits above the iPhone Duo, which costs roughly $2,401 for 256GB and $2,702 for 512GB.
Samsung is not selling extra performance here. It is selling a status symbol, which is similar to buying the kind of gift or showpiece that signals taste and success. That strategy works best when a buyer wants to stand out from the crowd who has identical black slabs.
A pattern Samsung keeps repeating

The exclusive W-series is an annual tradition. The W24 arrived in 2023 at CNY 15,999, and the W25 launched in November 2024 at the same price, with a ceramic finish and gold accents. SamMobile reported the W25 sold out in China soon after launch.
The W27 starts CNY 3,000 higher than the W25, an increase of about 19%. If buyers keep paying, expect Samsung to keep pushing the ceiling and continue increasing prices with every new launch.
Concluding thoughts
The W27 proves that color alone can move a premium phone. If a dual-tone blue and gold finish can command this price, why can’t Samsung offer something similar on the global Fold? Would you pay $2,850 just for the look?
