Spotify’s Audiobook expansion brings 350,000 titles to 750 million people

Spotify is expanding audiobooks from 22 to over 180 markets by the end of 2026, with 350,000 titles, Page Match page numbers, and Audiobooks+ for students.

For a lot of people outside a few English-speaking countries, Spotify’s audiobook shelf has been a locked door. I’m glad it’s finally opening, though I want to see the prices before I cheer.

Spotify announced at the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 7, 2026, that it will expand audiobooks from 22 markets to more than 180 by the end of the year. The expansion puts more than 350,000 titles in over 120 languages within reach of more than 750 million people.

Most of us have a phone home screen with one app for music, another for podcasts, and a third for books we keep meaning to get to. Imagine deleting one of those icons because the app you open twenty times a day finally covers it. That’s the pitch Spotify is making to millions of new listeners.

How will the audiobook rollout reach 180 markets?

The expansion covers large parts of Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, and it runs through the end of 2026. New markets get catalogs in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Polish, among others. You can see the complete list at the end of this news post.

Spotify says all of its publishing partnerships are non-exclusive, so authors can keep selling elsewhere. I like that, because it keeps writers from being tied to one app.

What are the three ways to listen on Spotify?

Premium subscribers in eligible markets get 12 hours of audiobook listening a month, included in their plan. That list includes Italy, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Poland, Chile, Norway, and Peru. Twelve hours covers roughly one or two average-length books, so heavy listeners will hit the ceiling fast.

Audiobooks+ lets anyone add extra hours, and it’s the main way in across Africa, Asia, and Argentina. Direct sales let you buy a single title and keep it. Pricing and availability vary by market, and the announcement doesn’t list prices, which is the part I’m watching most closely.

Can Page Match now find your place with page numbers?

Page Match lets you move between print, e-book, and audio without losing your spot. More than one million readers have used it since February. The new update adds page numbers: scan the book’s ISBN barcode, then enter a page number to find your place. It works in over 30 languages.

Reading a few chapters in bed and picking up the audio on your commute is the best use of it, and it’s the feature I’d try first.

Is Audiobooks+ coming to Student plans?

In November, Student plan users in Ireland, Belgium, Austria, and Finland can add Audiobooks+ for extra listening hours. Spotify plans to bring it to more Student markets next year. Premium Family and Duo members can already get 15 hours a month through a recurring add-on.

Audiobooks+ launched just over a year ago and now has more than one million subscribers, with more than $100 million in annual recurring revenue.

Are people actually listening to Spotify audiobooks?

Spotify says monthly audiobook listeners grew nearly 40% over the past year, and listening hours climbed more than 30%. Those are the company’s own numbers, so I’d treat them as a good sign rather than a verdict.

Three years after audiobooks arrived in Spotify Premium, the real test is whether listeners in 180 markets will pay for extra hours or stay within the included 12. Spotify is betting that a reading habit can live right next to your playlists, and your next favorite book may soon sit one tap away from your favorite song.
