Google Pixel 12 Pro Fold leaks: May skip the wide design Samsung and Apple are using

Pixel 12 leaks reveal four model numbers, Android 18, and a near-square Pixel 12 Pro Fold, so wide foldable fans may be disappointed. Here's what we know.

Early leaks about Google’s Pixel 12 lineup point to a design choice that hasn’t changed. The Pixel 12 Pro Fold is reportedly sticking with a near-square inner display, even as wider foldables from Apple and Samsung draw strong demand.

Four Pixel 12 model numbers, their screen resolutions, and Android 18 as the launch software have reportedly appeared in the GSMA IMEI database, as highlighted by OVR Plus. The lineup includes the Pixel 12, Pixel 12 Pro, Pixel 12 Pro XL, and Pixel 12 Pro Fold, with a launch expected in August 2027.

You unfold a foldable to watch a YouTube video, and the clip sits in the middle with black bars above and below it. A wider inner screen would fill more of that space, and a near-square one keeps leaving it empty. That’s the daily annoyance wide foldables are meant to fix.

What the GSMA listing says about the four Pixel 12 models

The database lists the Pixel 12 as GC0QU, the Pixel 12 Pro as GWU59, the Pixel 12 Pro XL as G7U1Y, and the Pixel 12 Pro Fold as G4D5D. All four reportedly ship with Android 18 out of the box, though nobody knows what that version will include yet.

I’d take all of this with a grain of salt, because a database entry is not a finished phone. The model numbers are the solid part. I trust the resolutions a little less, since GSMA listings usually don’t include that kind of detail.

Why the Pixel 12 screens are reportedly getting slightly lower resolutions

The standard Pixel 12 is listed at 1080 x 2400, down a little from the Pixel 11‘s 1080 x 2424. The Pixel 12 Pro is listed at 1280 x 2824, and the Pro XL at 1344 x 2952, and both sit just under their Pixel 11 versions.

I doubt anyone will notice that day-to-day. A difference of a few dozen pixels in height is the kind of change you’d only catch on a spec sheet, and I’d rather see Google spend the effort elsewhere.

Is the Pixel 12 Pro Fold really staying near-square?

The inner display is listed at 2296 x 2404, a clear jump from the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. The catch is that the width and height are almost equal, which suggests the aspect ratio barely changes from this year’s model.

That matters because the iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold 8 are going wide, and demand for those has reportedly been very high. I find the wide format more appealing, and it’s frustrating because Google already tried it. The first Pixel Fold in 2023 had a wider display before the Pixel 9 Pro Fold went squarer.

What the dual-UTG display could mean for the Pixel 12 Pro Fold crease

There is one bright spot. The Pixel 12 Pro Fold is reportedly using a dual-UTG display, which should make the crease less visible. That’s an upgrade I’d notice every time I open the phone.

Still, a better crease doesn’t make up for a shape I’d been hoping would change. With the lineup expected around August 2027, Google has time to prove these leaks wrong, and I’m hoping it does.
