The PDF reader and editor running on 500 million Android devices, in a community build that turns on the full Acrobat Premium feature set from the very first launch.
What is Adobe Acrobat Reader
Adobe Acrobat Reader is Adobe's official Android PDF app. Adobe invented the PDF format back in the early 1990s and still owns the spec, so this is about as first-party as PDF apps get. You can open, read, annotate, and now edit documents straight from a phone or tablet, using the same rendering engine that runs Acrobat on the desktop.
The free tier covers the basics: reading, signing a single document, highlighting, sticky notes, and the page reflow that keeps long PDFs readable on a small screen. Everything beyond that sits behind Acrobat Premium. That means editing text and images inside a PDF, exporting to Word or Excel, organising and merging pages, password protection, AI Assistant summaries, and the new PDF Spaces collaboration layer. Premium bills monthly or yearly, and the yearly plan currently works out to about US$12.99 a month.
The community-built mod APK on this page leaves Adobe's engine untouched and just opens the premium gate. So the editor, the exporter, the page organiser, the signing flow, and the AI tools all work with no Adobe subscription attached. That is why readers in cost-restricted markets and freelancers sizing up Acrobat against tools like CamScanner keep asking for it.

What this mod offers
The community build is the same APK Adobe ships to the Play Store. The one change is that the entitlement check, the bit that decides who gets Acrobat Premium, is flipped on at install time. The PDF rendering, the AI Assistant, and the edit engine are all Adobe's work. What changes is which buttons you can actually reach on day one.
- Acrobat Premium unlocked.
Edit PDF text and images, export to Word, Excel, RTF, and PowerPoint, and use the full page-organising tools with no Adobe subscription. All of these are locked to the paid tier in the official release.
- AI Assistant available.
The conversational PDF assistant that summarises documents, answers questions about them, and generates audio briefings is switched on. In the Play Store build it needs the Premium plan or a per-document credit.
- Unlimited document signing.
Fill & Sign and the request-signature workflow run without limits. The free Play tier caps how many signature requests you get each month.
- Adobe Express design tools.
The new Express-powered design panel, used for dropping logos, headers, and styled text into a PDF, is reachable. Handy for tidying up a scanned letterhead.
- Ad and upgrade prompt suppression.
The constant “upgrade to Premium” banners and interstitials are gone. The reader behaves like a plain single-tier app.
- PDF Spaces preview.
The collaborative Spaces feature, where several people comment on and share PDFs in one workspace, is open in the modded build so you can try it against the competition.

How to install
If you already have Adobe Acrobat Reader from the Play Store, uninstall it first so the community signature does not clash with the Adobe one. The mod is a normal APK, not an app bundle.
- Download the APK file
Tap the green download button on this page. The file lands in your default Downloads folder and weighs around 193 MB.
- Allow installs from this source
Open Settings and search for
Install unknown apps. Find your file manager or browser in the list and turn the permission on for that one app. - Open the downloaded APK
Tap the file in your Downloads folder or in the notification shade. Android’s package installer opens and lists the permissions it wants.
- Tap Install
Confirm the install and let the progress bar finish. It installs as “Adobe Acrobat Reader”, with the same launcher icon and the same package id as the Play release.
- Skip the sign-in prompt
The first-launch screen asks for an Adobe ID. Tap “Maybe later”. The premium features are already on. Signing in with a free Adobe ID is fine, but you do not need a paid Acrobat ID for any of this to work.
FAQ
- Is Adobe Acrobat Reader free on Google Play?
- The base reader is free. Editing, exporting to Word or Excel, organising pages, AI summaries, and unlimited signing sit behind Acrobat Premium, currently around US$12.99/month on the yearly plan. The mod build on this page unlocks the premium feature set for evaluation.
- How is the mod build different from the Play Store version?
- The PDF engine, the AI Assistant, the editor, and the UI are Adobe’s code. The only change is the entitlement check that gates Premium features. The mod returns “premium active” from the first launch, so edit-text, export, organise, AI Assistant, and Fill & Sign work without an Acrobat subscription.
- Will the mod conflict with the Play Store Acrobat already on my device?
- Yes. Both APKs use the same package id (
com.adobe.reader) but the community build is signed with a different key. Android will refuse to install the second one until the first is uninstalled. Uninstall the Play version first, install the mod, then re-install Play later if you want to switch back. - Does the mod still sync with my Adobe Document Cloud?
- Signing in with a free Adobe ID works and the cloud sync layer continues to function. Signing in with a paid Acrobat ID is not needed and can occasionally re-enable the official entitlement check, which would override the mod’s premium toggle. If that happens, sign out and use the app locally.
- How big is the download?
- The current mod APK is approximately 193 MB. Adobe Acrobat ships as a single universal APK with arm64-v8a and armeabi-v7a code, no separate ABI splits. The previous version available on this page is around 120 MB; Adobe adds size with each major update to fit the new AI tooling and the Express design panel.
- Why isn’t this on apkpure or happymod?
- Both apkpure and happymod host Acrobat Reader, but apkpure serves the Adobe-signed original (no premium unlock) and happymod sometimes carries an older modded build. The file mirrored on this page is the current v26.4.1.44660 community release with premium active.
