What is Douyin
Douyin is the original short-form video app from ByteDance, the same company behind TikTok. The two apps share a near-identical interface, but they run as separate networks: Douyin is the home version for China and TikTok is the international build, and content does not cross between them. People often call Douyin "Chinese TikTok" for exactly this reason, and in practice it is the parent that TikTok grew out of after its 2016 launch.
The core loop is the vertical For You feed. An AI recommendation engine learns what you linger on and serves a personalised stream of 15-second to multi-minute clips. Where Douyin pulls ahead of its global sibling is everything bolted on around the feed: deep live-streaming, a built-in store so you can buy an item straight from the video showing it, mini-programs, and a far larger native effects and music library.
For creators, the in-app editor covers music sync, transitions, filters, stickers, beauty tools, and speed ramps without a second app. That breadth is why Douyin sees over a billion monthly users and average sessions well past an hour. This page hosts the modded Android build for readers who want the full creator toolkit unlocked, including those outside China who cannot reach the app through their regional store.
What the mod unlocks
- No region lock on the feed
The modded build sidesteps the regional gate that normally keeps the Douyin feed inside China, so the For You stream loads from outside the country.
- No watermark on saved videos
Clips you download or re-share leave the app clean, without the trailing Douyin handle stamp baked into the corner.
- Full effects and beauty library
The complete filter, sticker, and beauty-tool set is open in the camera, including the premium packs usually rotated in and out for regional accounts.
- Ad-light browsing
The in-feed ad cards and store-promo interruptions are trimmed back so the scroll stays on creator content.
- Higher-quality video saves
Downloads pull the source-quality file rather than a re-compressed copy, which keeps detail in fast-motion and dance clips.
How to install
- Download the APK file
Tap the download button on this page. The file lands in your default Downloads folder.
- Allow installs from this source
Open Settings, search
Install unknown apps, find your browser or file manager, and toggle the permission on. - Open the downloaded APK
Tap the file in Downloads. Android's package installer opens and lists the permissions Douyin requests.
- Tap Install
Confirm and wait for the progress bar. Because the file is large, give it a moment on slower storage.
- Open and set your language
Launch the app, skip the sign-in if you only want to browse, and switch the interface language in Settings if the default loads in Chinese.
